General Motors India (GM) on Monday announced the first shipment of 3,000 left-hand-drive Chevrolet Beats manufactured at its Maharashtra factory to Mexico.

"In keeping with our commitment to the 'Make in India' programme, we are proud to celebrate the first shipment of Chevrolet Beats to Mexico, GM India's second major export market," said GM India president and MD Arvind Saxena in a statement.

"This is part of GM's strategy to make India an export hub for global markets. We will continue to export Beats to Mexico on a monthly basis," he added.

Branded as Spark outside India, as many as one million Beats were sold in 70 markets worldwide, the statement added.

Currently, GM India's plant in Maharashtra's Talegaon has a base manufacturing capacity of 1,30,000 vehicles, it said, adding by 2025, its base capacity will be increased to 2,20,000 vehicles to become a global export hub for GM with up to 30 percent of its annual production to go for exports.

GM India plans to export 20,000 vehicles in 2015 and aims to increase the exports to 50,000 units in 2016, the statement added.

Chevrolet models available in India are Beat, Captiva, Cruze, Enjoy, Sail, Sail Hatchback, Spark and Tavera.
