Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday condoled the death of noted architect Charles Correa, who was of Goan-origin.

The Padma Vibhushan award-winner died on Tuesday night after a brief illness in Mumbai at the age of 84.

"Correa was the face of modern architecture in India, who took the modern Indian architecture overseas. One of the greatest Indian architects, whose creativity will remain with us through his work of art," Parsekar said.

"His design of Kala Academy -- a government-operated centre of the arts in Goa -- will always remind us of him for years to come. This eminent person who secured several awards and recognition around the globe will always have a special place in our hearts," Parsekar added.

Correa was conferred with the Gomant Vibhushan award in 2011 by the Goa government.
