"We have been speaking to the parents of students studying in that school. We will convey to the management the security measures to be taken at the school," Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) O.P. Mishra told reporters here.

He also said the head mistress who had delayed the registration of a first information report (FIR) in the case would now be charged with negligence.

"Head mistress Sharlet Furtado will be booked for negligence as she failed to register a complaint nearly four hours after the incident," Mishra said.

The official said the parents have also accused the school management, which includes top officials of the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), of trying to cover up the rape.

The school in Vasco town has been closed after the rape of the minor sparked public outcry and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was forced to rush to pacify the agitated crowd near the school premises.

Police are still on the lookout for the accused, whose identity has not been established yet.
