Boars, monkeys and other wild animals that destroy agricultural and horticultural produce will soon be classified as vermin, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Wednesday.
Parsekar was responding to a query from Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane on the issue during question hour in the Goa assembly.
"Time has come to classify some of these animals as vermin. Monkeys and boar regularly destroy fields. We have already initiated steps based on central government instructions. We will do it as early as possible," Parsekar said.
Rapid urbanisation and the reduction in forest cover have resulted in numerous instances of human-wildlife conflict in Goa.
