Women artists are displaying nine Indian goddesses to celebrate the power each woman possess within as also moods and emotions at an exhibition "Devi-Devi" here.

"With these powerful images (paintings), we pay tribute to all women and celebrate the goddess that lives within each of us," said Vijaylakshmi Dogra, curator of the exhibition inaugurated Friday at Art Indus Gallery in Chanakyapuri, Delhi.

Be it fearless Durga striding a lion about to slay the demon or gentle Parvati meditating on a mountain peak, turbulent Ganga flowing from Lord Shiva's locks or modest Sita - their actions and virtues are ingrained in today's women and the paintings focus on these aspects.

Artists like Arpana Caur, Seema Kohli, Shipra Bhattacharya, Jayasri Barman, Gogi Saroj Pal and others have sketched their thoughts on canvas - some of which are inspired by beautiful Draupadi, benevolent Laxmi and the goddess of learning Saraswati.

The exhibition which began Friday will continue till Oct 24.
