Atlanta (US), July 21 (IANS/CMC) Trinidad and Tobago gave a spirited performance but were left heartbroken as they lost 0-1 to Mexico in their CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal game.
The 'Soca Warriors' held the Mexicans to a scoreless draw up until the 84th minute before Raul Jimenez guided a ball to the right of goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams Saturday night, reports CMC.
It was the first time in 13 years that T and T reached the top eight in a Gold Cup tournament while the six-time champions Mexico reached have qualified for the semifinals for the ninth occasion.
It also means that there are no Caribbean teams left in the remaining stages of the tournament.
Mexico will play Panama, who eliminated Caribbean Cup champions Cuba 1-6, in the semifinals in Dallas July 24.
The other semifinalists will be determined Sunday night in Baltimore when United States play El Salvador and Honduras against Costa Rica.
