Leading Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri opened his campaign in the $8 million DP World Tour Championship with a one-over 73 to be tied 46th at the Earth Course of the Jumeirah Golf Estates here on Thursday.
The 28-year-old got birdies on the second, sixth and 14th holes. However, the world No.42 dropped shots on the fourth, ninth, 15th and 17th for a 73.
Meanwhile, German Martin Kaymer, Australian Marcus Fraser and English duo of Andy Sullivan and Ian Poulter scored matching 66s to share the opening round lead of the European Tour season-ending tournament.
Italian Francesco Molinari scored 67 to grab the fifth spot, one stroke ahead of Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, Branden Grace of South Africa, Paraguay's Fabrizio Zanotti, Spanish duo of Alejandro Canajares and Miguel Angel Jiminez and English trio of Danny Willett, Chris Wood and Matthew Fitzpatrick.
Sweden's Henrik Stenson started his hat-trick bid in a struggling way as he scored five-over 77.
