Government has issued notice to telcos: Prasad

The government has issued show cause notice to telecom firms Aircel, Airtel, Vodafone India, Tata Teleservices, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications for under reporting of revenue but the companies have refuted the charge, Telecommunications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed the Lok Sabha Monday.

"During scrutiny of the documents submitted by the licensees, the Department of Telecom has noticed that the records submitted by some private telecom companies give indication of under-reporting of revenues," the minister said in a written reply.

"Show cause notices were issued to all these companies. Each one of them has refuted the charge and claimed that their revenue details have been worked out keeping in view various court judgments and hence are in order. They have also represented for opportunity for hearing before passing of speaking order," he said.

 

The notice shared with parliament shows that the notices issued to the telcos this year were to Dishnet Wireless (now Aircel) April 9, Aircel March 27, Idea Cellular March 20, Vodafone India March 25, Tata Teleservices March 20, Bharti Airtel March 19 and Reliance Communications March 18.
