The government on Wednesday said it has full sympathy for those who have booked flats with housing promoters and it is their right to get the houses for which they have paid money.
When asked in this regard at a media briefing after the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said: "Those who have bought flats and have invested money should get their flats. It is their right. Our full sympathies are with them."
As far as the cases of insolvency of the builder were concerned, the minister said there was a provision of law for this also.
"Those cases which have gone for insolvency, there is a provision of law regarding how during insolvency a company can do business. Those aggrieved have also remedies in that law, as they are also covered under the law. If any such move comes, the government's sympathies will be with buyers," Jaitley said.
A large number of home buyers of Jaypee, Amrapali and some other projects have hit the street and are holding hunger strike protests in Noida outside the corporate offices of their builders for the last four days.
The buyers have not got the possession of their flats, payment for which was made by them way back in 2010.
