The Congress on Tuesday accused the Narendra Modi government of "misleading" the country over the quantity of crops destroyed due to unseasonal rain and hailstorms.
"Mr. Modi and company and his suit-boot government is trying to mislead the country and a good example was seen in the Lok Sabha on Monday," Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told the media here.
He said the government was quoting different figures at different times as far as the damage to crops was concerned.
"They have been quoting three different figures as far as number of hectares of crops destroyed is concerned. Initially they said it was around 186 lakh hectares, then it came down to 106 lakh hectares, and now it is 80 lakh hectares," Ahmed said.
"This should be a matter of concern and is a case of privilege," he added.
A combative Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Monday mounted an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha since returning from leave of absence. He accused Modi's government of "suit-boot" and "acche din" of working for corporates and forgetting farmers.
