After the Supreme Court's notice to the Centre and the Election Commission that EVMs should be used in polls along with the VVPAT, the Congress said that it is the responsibility of the government to respond to the notice so that all elections meet the highest operating standards.
"In any functioning democracy it is critical that every vote is correctly accounted for. It is important that the EVM technology is tamper-proof and it ensures that there is a legitimate paper audit trail which reconciles to the votes in the EVM machine," said Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha.
"It is the responsibility of the government to respond to the Supreme Court notice so that all elections meet the highest operating standards," he said.
The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Centre and the Election Commission on a plea by the BSP.
