The central government on Monday said it has signed a $120 million loan agreement with the World Bank to help increase access to improved water supply in the peri-urban areas of Uttarakhand.
According to an official statement, the 'Uttarakhand Water Supply Programme for Peri-Urban Areas' will help the state increase water supply as well as ensure sustainable water supply service in peri-urban areas.
Sameer Kumar Khare, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, said that over 700,000 people residing in these areas are expected to benefit from the programme, especially women who will have easy access to regular water supply.
