With the objective to reduce the government's dependency on courts, it is bringing in the National Litigation Policy (NLP) to avoid unnecessary litigation involving the various ministries and departments, Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said Wednesday.

"The proposed policy has been sent to various ministries for their comments and after we receive the same, the policy could be placed before the cabinet," Gowda said while interacting with the media here.

The minister hoped to place NLP for deliberations before the parliament in its coming winter session.

Gowda said the aim of NLP would be to eliminate unnecessary litigation between the various government ministries and departments and focus on "alternate dispute resolution" through mediation and conciliation.

The minister also said that they (ministry) had considered the issue of raising the retirement age of High Court judges from 62 years to 65 years.
