India is in the process of revising the guidelines for adopting children to simplify the process, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said Tuesday.
"The guidelines are being revised to further simplify the procedure and to minimise delay in the process of adoption," Gandhi informed the Lok Sabha.
She said changes being contemplated include linking all orphaned, abandoned and surrendered children of child-care institutions to the adoption system and bringing non-resident Indian adoptive parents at par with domestic ones.
The government, however, has no proposal to set up state adoption resource authority under the central adoption body in any state, she said.
