Governor accepts Kashmir's minister's resignation

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra Friday accepted with immediate effect the resignation of minister Shabir Ahmad Khan, who has been accused of sexual assault, an official statement said here.

It said Khan's letter of resignation of Shabir Ahmad Khan, recommended and forwarded by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been accepted with immediate effect.

Abdullah said earlier Friday he has received the resignation of Khan, minister of state for health, and forwarded it to the governor for acceptance.

Khan had been advised by the Congress leadership to submit his resignation from the council of ministers and step aside till he is proved innocent.

 

A doctor in Srinagar has accused Khan of trying to sexually assault her after she was asked to come to his office Jan 28.

An FIR had been registered Thursday in the Shaheed Gunj police station of Srinagar against Khan following directions from the chief judicial magistrate.
