Guerrilla hideout busted in Kashmir

A guerrilla hideout was busted on Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district and a quantity of arms and ammunition seized, an army officer said.

"The troops of Rashtriya Rifles battalion based at Banihal under Delta Force along with state police busted a militant hideout in the dense forest of Bajpathri area of Banihal tehsil, Ramban and recovered arms, ammunition and other war-like stores," army spokesman. Lt. Col. Manish Mehta told IANS here.

"The joint operation by troops of Delta Force and police was launched in the morning of February 11 and continued till today (Saturday) afternoon," he said, adding the arms and ammunition recovered included three pistols with magazines, 2,042 rounds of AK-47, 25 rounds of a sniper rifle, five hand grenades, five magazines of AK-47, two radio sets, one weapon sight and other stores.

 

"The hideout is believed to be of militants who have been killed in the past by security forces," he said, adding the Delta Force commander complimented the troops who took part in the operation.
