Gunmen Monday kidnapped a British national in Yemen's capital Sanaa, the second such incident in the Arab country within a week, an interior ministry official said.
The British man was kidnapped in the morning, said the official, adding that the police are searching the entire capital after witnesses gave the number plate of the gunmen's car, reported Xinhua.
The Briton was the second foreigner to be kidnapped in a week. On Friday, tribesmen kidnapped a German national in Sanaa and demanded that the Yemeni authorities release two of their jailed relatives.
Security in the country worsened after political upheaval broke out in 2011, severely weakening the government's control. Foreigners are frequently kidnapped by Al Qaeda militants or tribesmen who either ask for ransom or the release of jailed people.
