Bundesliga football club Hamburg parted company with head coach Thorsten Fink owing to below-par performance, club officials announced Tuesday.

Hamburg and coach Thorsten Fink bring their cooperation with immediate effect to an end. The "Rothosen" were unable to recover from a poor start into the season as they slumped to the Bundesliga basement with only four points out of five games. The hammering 2-6 loss to Dortmund Saturday was the final straw, reports Xinhua.

"In the light of recent performances we came to the conclusion that this step is inevitable. We weren't convinced that Thorsten Fink could turn the tides with the team. After intense discussions we acted in accordance with the club," Hamburg director of sport Oliver Kreutzer said.

Hamburg's Under-23 coach Rodolfo Cardoso and U-19 coach Otto Addo will take the helm for now.

Thorsten Fink moved from Basel two years ago to replace Michael Oenning at Hamburg.
