To curb smuggling of cows to neighbouring states, the Haryana government has banned the sale-purchase of cows in the animal fairs in the state, a spokesman said Tuesday.

He said a notification has been issued by the Haryana Gau Sewa Aayog (commission). The commission has asked all deputy commissioners to ensure strict compliance of the orders.

The notification also banned the entry of cows to fairs across Haryana.

The commission took a serious note of incidents of smuggling of cows to neighbouring states and their sale to slaughter houses.
