Eight persons, including seven women, were killed and ten critically injured in a massive pile-up of around 50 vehicles because of dense fog on the National Highway 71 in Haryana.
The accident occurred on Monday morning on the Rewari-Rohtak-Jalandhar highway near Jhajjar flyover.
The eight people who died were travelling in an SUV from their village in Kirdodh in Jhajjar, to outer Delhi's Najafgarh for a condolence visit when it was crushed between a tractor trolley carrying building material and a truck, police said.
The deceased were identified as Satpal (48), Santosh Devi (45), Kanta Devi (34), Premlata (50), Laxmi (63), Ramkali (35), Sheela Devi (61) and Khazani Devi (36).
The injured, including Pushpa (30) and Mangeram (50), were referred to PGIMS Rohtak, while the other eight victims, aged between 30 and 51 years, were admitted to various hospitals.
Haryana Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister O.P. Dhankar announced Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 1 lakh for those injured.

The accident led to a 2 km-long traffic jam on the highway.
