Haryana Speaker Kunwar Pal Gujar on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala, who last week resigned as the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.
The Speaker also withdrew the Leader of Opposition status given to Chautala.
He announced his resignation on March 23 after his party legislator Ranbir Singh Gangwa joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The INLD has 16 legislators in the BJP-ruled state while the Congress has 17.
Chautala had also announced that he would write to the Speaker to disqualify Gangwa and four legislators -- Naina Chautala, Anoop Dhanak, Pirthi Nambardar and Randeep Phogat -- who had joined the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), a breakaway faction of the INLD.
Also, he had said he would write to the Lok Sabha Speaker for the disqualification of Dushyant Chautala, an MP from Hisar.
