Bollywood singer and BJP's MP-elect Babul Supriyo Sunday urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to maintain a cordial relationship with the central government for the sake of the people of her state.

"Notwithstanding the political differences, if she (Banerjee) doesn't maintain a cordial relationship with the Centre then how can she think of the welfare of the people of Bengal," said Supriyo.

During the Lok Sabha poll campaign, Banerjee had launched a no-holds-barred attack on Modi after he accused the Trinamool of harbouring Bangladeshi infiltrators for the sake of its vote bank and also raised questions about its involvement in the Saradha scam.

The Asansol MP said Banerjee should learn lessons from her Tamil Nadu counterpart J. Jayalalithaa who congratulated prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi and hoped that the BJP-led central government will be friendly towards her state.

"I think she should learn from Jayalalithaa and work towards developing cordial relations with the Centre," added Supriyo who also tried to quell speculations about his becoming minister.

"I will share it with the world if and when the good news comes," he said.
