BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Tuesday said he has always taken moral responsibility for the deaths in the 2002 Godhara riots.

Asked whether he followed 'Rajdharma' during the 2002 riots, Modi said in an interview to ABP News: "I have taken it (moral responsibility for any person killed in Gujarat) since day one. In my speech in the state assembly, all my interviews, speeches, I have mentioned it."

Asked if his decision as prime minister will have an imprint of his background of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Modi said the government will function "as per the Constitution".

"I need to run the government, and the government functions as per the Constitution. I believe there is only one religion for the government - India first," Modi said.
