The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the central government over appointment of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) vice chairman Karan Singh Tanwar.

Justice V.P. Vaish has asked the central government, the NDMC, the Delhi government and Tanwar, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, to replym, by September 3, to notice on the plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party legislator Surender Singh, challenging the central government's July 8 notification appointing Tanwar.

Singh, who represents Delhi Cantonment constituency, has sought cancellation of Tanwar's appointment as NDMC vice chairman and also sought stay on the oath ceremony, saying once the member takes an oath, nothing can be done against him.

In his plea, he said that he was "aggrieved by the biased and illegal action of the respondents in appointing Karan Singh Tanwar as member and vice chairperson of the NDMC in a prima facie biased manner in blatant and utter disregard of the procedure prescribed under section 4 of NDMC Act" as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was neither consulted, nor concurred in the appointment.
