The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday sought response from the Uttar Pradesh government on the vacancies in the State Information Commission (SIC).
Hearing a petition filed by activist Nutan Thakur, a bench of Justice Devendra Kumar Arora and Justice Narendra Kumar Johari fixed January 22 as the next day of hearing.
In her petition, Thakur said there were posts of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and 10 Information Commissioners in the Commission and that 8 commissioners, who were working till now, had retired on January 6, leaving only the CIC in the Commission.
She said the state government has done nothing so far to fill the vacancies, affecting several government information seekers.
