The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday served a contempt notice on top state Home Department official Arvind Kumar for non-compliance of its earlier order in which it had quashed a government order putting the office of Lokayukta out of the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI).

The bench of Justice Mahendra Dayal observed that the state government had not formally notified quashing of its earlier order and that the government had not paid Rs 25,000 to Nutan Thakur who was petitioner in the case. The Court has asked the top home department official to respond in three weeks to its contempt notice.

Thakur had challenged the notification issued by the government by which the Lokayukta was kept beyond the purview of the Uttar Pradesh Right to Information Act, 2005, in the year 2013 vide a writ petition (No.1748 MB).
