The Delhi High Court on Thursday stayed the city government's order to evict residents of the Tahirpur Leprosy Complex.
Justice Ashutosh Kumar stayed the Delhi government notification issued on February 2 which directed over 500 families of leprosy-affected people residing at the Tahirpur Leprosy Complex to vacate the premises that was said to be illegally constructed.
A group of people in the complex filed a plea challenging the government notification citing "sympathetic consideration" from the authorities, on grounds that they were suffering from the disease as well as social stigma.
The court fixed February 22 as the next date of hearing and also sought response from the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and department of social welfare under the Delhi government.
