Heavy rainfall has damaged many houses and caused flooding in low-lying villages in the northeastern state of Manipur, officials said on Sunday.

Also, thunderstorm accompanied by hails battered Manipur and several northeastern states on Sunday.

In Manipur's Bishnupur district, over 300 acres of paddy fields have been flooded. There were widespread destructions of houses in Mayang Imphal areas.

Landslides at several places along the National Highway 37 linking Imphal to Assam have caused the vehicular movement to be suspended.

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has directed the officials to provide relief to the victims.

The Met Office in Imphal has forecast more rains and hailstorms.
