Two-wheeler manufacturer Hero Motors on Monday launched its team comprising India's top off-road racer C.S. Santosh and Portugal rider Joaquim Rodrigues for the Dakar Rally, which will be held early next year.
The cross-country rally, widely regarded the toughest in the world, will run in South America from January 4, spanning a total distance of around 9,000 kms.
Speaking on the occasion, 2015 Dakar finisher Santoth, said: "I am proud to carry the Indian tricolour at the Dakar rally. I hope to put-up a great show at the rally. This year is amazing so far and will be completely different as I am going to participate as a member of the world class factory team."
"After a good finish in the first qualifier, I am now charged-up for the upcoming Oilibya rally in October," he added.
Santosh is the first Indian rider to take part in Dakar, having finished 36th in 2015. He retired from this year's edition due to technical troubles.
His compatriot in Dakar 2017, Rodrigues seemed confident ahead of the rally and said that the team has all the right ingredients to be a successful rally team.
