United States international John Anthony Brooks has extended his contract with German football club Hertha Berlin until 2019.

The 23-year-old defender on Sunday extended his current contract, lasting till June 2017, for two years to stay with Hertha until June 2019, reports Xinhua.

"John Brooks is an important player for Hertha Berlin. With the extension of his contract we are continuing the development of the team. John plays a key role in our future plans," Berlin CEO Michael Preetz said.

Brooks plays since his youth for Hertha Berlin. He turned professional in 2011 and made 84 appearances to score five goals since then. The centre-back made his debut for the US in 2013 to provide two goals in 18 caps.

"Everyone knows that Hertha is my club and Berlin my home. I am happy that I can be a part of this great and exciting development of the team," Brooks said.

Berlin is the stunner team of the current season. After battling for their top-flight status last season, they occupy third place in Bundesliga standings.
