Hi-tech machine spews beer for fans mimicking Scot talk (CWG Diary)

Fancy a free beer? Get talking in Scottish! A hi-tech water cooler that talks to visitors and dispenses beer is doing the rounds of the city assessing one's accent and rewarding the best with a beer.

So, tourists who can mutter "I'll have a pint big man" in a distinct Scottish accent and sing aloud, will be handed a beer by the machine.

Those who can't patter around properly will have to cool off with a glass of water.

CWG tweet wall for viral hepatitis awareness

A gigantic tweet wall is being erected in Glasgow's St. Enoch Square to generate a buzz on viral hepatitis which kills 1.5 million people globally every year.

The interactive wall, billed as the largest tweet wall in the world, comprises bricks displaying negative aspects of viral hepatitis that patients face every day.

The idea is that every tweet and text message sent using the hashtag #thinkhepatitis will help turn the negatives into positive words of support for those affected.

Cycling the way to the Games

Besides being a green activity, cycling is also the biggest sporting goods market in the world in terms of revenue and cashing in on both is the Glasgow's new Mass Automated Cycle Hire (MACH) scheme.

Through the 600,000 scheme, 400 bikes have been made available for public hire at 31 locations across the city for the spectators to access the 2014 Commonwealth Games venues.

Operated by the Glasgow Bike Station - a charity advocating mental and physical health - registered customers are provided with a login username, membership and personal identification number to avail the bikes.

Annual subscribers are provided with a radio frequency identification card which can be swiped over the cycle's on-board computer sensor to speed up the hire process. As many as four bikes can be hired on one card.

Similar to the Barclays Cycle Hire initiative in London, commonly known as Boris bikes, the MACH has been a hit with the masses.
