Oscar contender "Hidden Figures" will release in India on February 17.

Its release date was announced by Fox Star Studios via a statement on Wednesday.

A biographical drama film directed by Theodore Melfi and written by Melfi and Allison Schroeder, "Hidden Figures" is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly about female African-American mathematicians at NASA.

The film is an untold story of Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson -- brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: The launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world.

The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

"Hidden Figures" is also this year's highest grosser in the US for any Oscar nominee. The film has crossed more than $120 million and still holding very strong, the statement read.
