The Himachal Pradesh assembly Wednesday passed the general budget for the next fiscal and adopted the related appropriation bill authorising the government to spend Rs.25,543.62 crore from the consolidated fund.

The budget was passed in the absence of the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party members from the house.

The house discussed and voted the demands pertaining to irrigation and public health, food and civil supplies, health and family welfare, environment and forests, and public works departments while the remaining demands were passed without discussion.

The BJP continued its total boycott of the assembly session for the eighth consecutive sitting Wednesday.

The party has been boycotting the house since Feb 7, the day the budget was presented.

The opposition has been disrupting the house since the session began Feb 3.
