The Himachal Pradesh High Court Monday issued notice to the state and the central government on the large-scale use of harmful oxytocin injection in livestock.
Taking a suo motu cognisance of a media report, a division bench of Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan issued the notices to the state officials, including the chief secretary and the principal secretary (health), and the Drug Controller General of India.
The news report said the oxytocin is used widely in the state to increase the milk production, enlarge the size of vegetables and fruits and improve its colour and shine.
The report also said that oxytocin was being produced on large scale in pharma companies in Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh.
The court will next hear the matter Dec 8.
