The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday directed the Commissioner of the Shimla Municipal Corporation to constitute a team to visit schools of the city and identify parking spaces for school vehicles.
A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed this order on a petition of Nitin Vyas.
The petition highlighted the negligence of the government and school administrations in ensuring the safety of students.
Despite guidelines issued by the Supreme Court for safe plying of school buses, several accidents involving school vehicles are occurring, it said.
The high court directed the municipal corporation to send an advance notice to each school before the inspection.
It was told to file a status report after identifying spaces, preferably within school campuses, where the vehicles can be parked.
