A massive landslide following a downpour damaged a state-run hydropower project on Tuesday in Chamba town of Himachal Pradesh, an official said. There was no loss of life.

The 2 MW Sal-II hydropower project, named after Kailash Chand Mahajan, located on the outskirts of Chamba town was severely damaged and generation shut, an official at the project told IANS over phone.

He said the incident occurred around 4 a.m.

The project, located some 450 km from the state capital, was inaugurated in March 2000 by then chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.

The project was named after Mahajan in recognition of his contribution during the 1971 Indo-Pak War while serving as a superintending engineer in Punjab.
