The Shimla Hotel and Restaurant Association, with more than 300 members, Monday condemned service tax the central government has imposed from April 1 on hotels that are either fully or partially air-conditioned.
Hotels and restaurants across the state, including in tourist destinations Manali and Dharamsala, however, did not join the all-India strike called to protest the new tax. They operated normally as most of them are not air-conditioned.
Association general secretary Ashwani Sood told IANS that a meeting was held in Shimla and a resolution was passed to oppose the tax.
