Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh announced Tuesday that the state would make it compulsory for each school student to be a member of the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
More and more students should be associated with the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement, and for this it would be made compulsory for students to join the movement, he said.
The education department would shortly issue a notification in this regard, the chief minister said while addressing the state council meeting of Bharat Scouts and Guides.
Currently, 1,240 schools carry out activities relating to the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
Virbhadra Singh also announced a initial sum of Rs.1 crore for the construction of a training centre for Bharat Scouts and Guides at Rewalsar in Mandi district. The building would cost Rs.5.5 crore.
The chief minister stressed upon revising the courses of mathematics, English and Hindi to make these more effective and also asked for starting Punjabi and Urdu in schools where more than 30-40 students were interested to take up these subjects.
