Congress leader Pramod Tiwari Thursday compared the forces driving religious conversion in India to Mumbai terrorist attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
"What Hafiz Saeed is doing, there are some people here who are doing a similar task by forcing conversions," Tiwari said in the Rajya Sabha. "They are Hafiz's twins."
The remark was strongly objected to not only by the government but by the chair as well.
"Comparing anyone here to Hafiz Saeed is not acceptable," Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien agreed with Prasad and said such a comparison cannot be done.
