Hoffenheim head coach Huud Stevens tendered his resignation with immediate effect on Wednesday to leave the German football club due to health reasons.

The Dutch coach has surprisingly taken this decision just three days before his side's Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen, reports Xinhua.

It is expected that Hoffenheim will later announce further details about the new coach who, according to German news agency DPA, will be Stevens's assistant Alfred Schreuder.

After his arrival in late October, Stevens, 62, failed to lead Hoffenheim to a higher position and they remained in the relegation zone.

Hoffenheim are currently in the penultimate position of the Bundesliga with 14 points.
