Wearing a pair of trousers and shirt and moving around with a woman in a shopping mall in Indore cost Swami Shaileshanand Giri his 'Mahamandaleshwar' status on Friday.

The video clipping of Giri's shopping trip had gone viral on the social media, following which All India Akhara Parishad head Swami Narendra Giri divested him of the coveted status.

Swami Narendra Giri told the media here that Swami Shaileshanand had committed a "wrong" by wearing western clothes.

Swami Shaileshanand was made the 'Mahamandaleshwar' during the Simhasta Kumbh Mela at Ujjain in April-May. He will have to go through the whole process prescribed for achieving the coveted religious status once again.
