The union home ministry on Wednesday announced it will extend help to Kashmiri student Zaman Ishtiyaq Bhat, from Shaher-e-Khaas city in Jammu and Kashmir, who cracked the IIT entrance examination this year.

Bhat secured the 5,984th rank in the recently declared results and expects to secure a seat in the IITs, either in Roorkee, Kharagpur, Guwahati or Chennai.

The Jammu and Kashmir government and the director general of police have already announced financial assistance to Bhat, and the union home ministry will fill the gap, if any, for the financial assistance, an official statement said.

Bhat, the son of Ishtiyaq Ahmad Bhat, an employee of J&K Bank, is a resident of Kanni Dewaar Hawal.
