Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi on Wednesday assured the border residents in Jammu and Kashmir that bunkers will be constructed for their safety during cross-border firing.
The home secretary, who arrived here early Wednesday, visited Abdullian village in R.S. Pura sector of the international border accompanied by inspector general (IG), border security force (BSF) and other senior officers.
During an interaction with the villagers, the home secretary assured that every step will be taken to protect their lives and property.
He said that concrete bunkers would be constructed in villages close to the border so that the lives of people are protected during ceasefire violations by Pakistan troops.
He also said he would take up the demand of border residents to provide land to them for residential purposes away from the international border.
Mehrishi later left for Srinagar where he is scheduled to meet Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
