Honduran footballer Arnold Peralta has been shot dead while holidaying.
The midfielder was killed on Thursday in the car park of a shopping centre here but the motive behind the murder is unclear, reported BBC on Friday.
Peralta played for Scottish heavyweights Glasgow Rangers 24 times between the summer of 2013 and January 2015, netting once.
A statement from the Honduras Ministry of Security read: "We regret the violent death of the outstanding sportsman Arnold Peralta, a young player of the national team of Honduras."
Robbery has been ruled out. No arrests have been made.
Peralta played for Honduras in the 2012 London Olympics and was supposed to play a friendly against Cuba next week.
