It was a scorching day for the capital Friday with the mercury shooting up to 40 degrees, three notches above average. The met department has forecast a cloudy Saturday.

The minimum temperature settled one notch below average at 27.3 degrees, while the humidity wavered between a high and low of 82 and 27 percent.

"It was such a hot day. It does not feel that monsoon is here," said Raghav Sharma , a resident of south Delhi.

The sky will be partly cloudy Saturday.

Saturday's maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 41 and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Monsoon arrived in Delhi last Sunday, a good fortnight ahead of schedule but the national capital has not seen rains since then.

"It is the weak phase of monsoon but it does not mean that it will not revive. Moisture and wind, which come from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and cause rain, were not forming till now," said a senior official of the India Meteorological Department.

Officials at IMD have forecast light showers June 25.
