The sweltering heat made people's lives miserable Tuesday, and sent Delhi's power demand soaring to its highest so far - 5,925 MW.

With half of July over and no significant monsoon rain yet, the maximum temperature was recorded well up at 39 degrees Celsius - five notches above the season's average.

The Met Office has forecast a cloudy Wednesday with light rain and thunderstorms in some parts of the national capital.

"The skies will remain cloudy and rain will occur in some parts of the national capital," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Wednesday's maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 35 degrees and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Tuesday's minimum temperature was recorded at 28.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.

The humidity wavered between 52 percent and 85 percent.

Monday's maximum temperature was recorded at 36.6 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average, while the minimum temperature settled at 25.9 degrees Celsius, a notch below average.
