Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar here on Thursday presented to former President Pranab Mukherjee an anthology of his convocation addresses as the Head of State.
Speaking on the occasion, Javadekar said: "Our former President Pranab Mukherjee has always been our torchbearer. On July 9, on Guru Purnima, he addressed 700 Vice Chancellors from across the country, I thought it calls for a 'guru dakshina'... for the people this compilation is a cogitation on education. It's a philosophy of ideas."
The book, published by the National Book Trust, will be circulated to various higher learning institutes in the country, an official statement said.
Mukherjee said he had always believed that improvement in the quality of higher education with particular emphasis on research and innovation was absolutely necessary if the country was to lead in the field.
He said he had no doubt that under Javadekar's leadership, Indian higher education institutes will become comparable to the best in the world.
