Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in New York City, Washington, San Francisco and Portland to protest President Donald Trump's ban on transgenders in the US military.
The protests came just hours after Trump announced the ban on Twitter on Wednesday.
"After consultation with my generals and military experts, please be advised that the US government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the US military," tweeted the President, who said on the campaign trail that he supported the rights of LGBTQ Americans.
"Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you."
More than a hundred people gathered at the White House. They included transgender service members and veterans who said they were "shocked and angry", ABC News reported.
"I was actually really shocked and angry, I don't know how he came to that conclusion so fast," said Kara Zajac, a transgender woman and a navy veteran.
