With people increasingly facing inconvenience in linking their Aadhaar number with the PAN because of discrepancy in name on both the cards, the process has now been simplified by the Income Tax Department.
The users can now link their Aadhaar card with the PAN from the Income Tax Department's website, giving the exact details of the name printed on both the cards.
"Taxpayers can go to http://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on the link on the left pane -- Link Aadhaar -- provide PAN, Aadhaar number and enter exactly the name as given in Aadhaar card (avoid spelling mistakes) and submit. After verification from Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the linking will be confirmed," the Income Tax Department said in a statement on Thursday.
There would be no need to log-in or be registered on the income tax e-filing website for linking, it said.
