The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) on Monday asked the government to provide subsidy for adoption of clean transport fuels like LPG for passenger cars to mitigate the problem of air pollution.

"There are several countries where government incentivises people to choose clean automotive fuels over conventional fuels like petrol and diesel," said Suyash Gupta, Director General, IAC.

"The Australian government gave away 2,000 dollars to each car owner who got the Auto LPG kit installed and 1,000 dollars to each of those who bought a new car running on Auto LPG."

According to Gupta, incentives can also be provided to cab aggregators and other commercial vehicle owners, who switch to clean fuels like CNG and Auto LPG.

"This will be in the interest of the society and dire efforts are required to reduce the menace of pollution in our cities," Gupta added.
